A Multitude
2024, Immersive Acousmatic Composition
A Multitude is a cycle of acousmatic compositions, exploring the topics of self-similarity, the continuity of sound and space and the generation of sonic space through drone. The pieces all draw from the same, highly reduced sonic material: the sound of a baroque Viola da Gamba. This sound is processed in manifold ways and its structure appear in almost every sonic layer, from the mightiest drone to the most subtle flutter.

Each of the pieces approaches these topics from a different angle: From the battle between restraint and eruption in The Indomitable through the dream-like morphing and shifting of Liminal to the highly deconstructed drone-worlds of Assembler, a diverse and yet closely related world of sound is constructed.

Composed and presented in 5th-order Ambisonics, the pieces were premiered in 2024 at Folkwang Universität der Künste, Essen. They utilize advanced reverb techniques to generate a dreamlike but still realistic sense of space and precise localization therein.
